Out & About
Social Group For People with Disabilities
"Out and About" is a peer support group for people with disabilities who want to participate in their community.
Out and About meetings are held at the Center For Independence on the second Thursday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Events are generally held monthly and range from local game, movie or craft events to outings at Mt. Rainier or NW Trek.
Please RSVP for all events by calling 253-582-1253. Locations are evolving, so it is important to contact for up-to-date information.
Out & About's Mission
The purpose of the Out and About group is twofold: to combat isolation by providing social opportunities, and to increase access for people with disabilities in the community. We envision our community being fully accessible for everyone, regardless of disability. The Out and About group not only enjoys social outings, but educates business leaders and the community about issues that are important to us. We increase awareness by sharing our experiences with each other.
Out & About's Guidelines
Please note the new policies for attending events. New members must attend one "Out & About" meeting before they are able to participate in an event. Also, it is required for ongoing members to attend a minimum of three meetings per year in order to participate in regularly scheduled events.
